Our History

The quintet has enjoyed consistent success throughout its 30-year history. Here are some highlights and “firsts” from the past and few fun group photos!

  • 1981 First concert performances, school shows and educational touring engagements
  • 1982 In the Fall, the quintet embarks on their first tour of evening presentations through British Columbia and the Northwest Territories
  • 1983 Touring expands with an extensive tour from the British Columbia coast through Alberta up to Fort McMurray. This year also marked the first studio recording for CBC radio broadcast
  • 1984 First concerts in the United States (Montana) and the Canadian Maritimes. The quintet also began a four year stint as the brass faculty and resident ensemble for the Alberta Summer Music Workshop
  • 1986 The quintet is honored as musical guests at Expo ’86 in Vancouver. Marks the first international tour including: Christmas Eve performance in Bethlehem Town Square, Christmas Day performance at the Jerusalem Theatre, followed by a twoweek tour of Israel

  • 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary! The quintet gives command performances for many ceremonies and events
  • 1988, 89 The quintet performs at the Keystone Brass Institute in Colorado, and resides as
    guest artists at the Sandpoint Festival in Idaho
  • 1989 Our first CD “Polished,” is released
  • 1990 First tour to England including performances at Joni Mitchell Art Exhibit opening, the Broadgate Centre and Canada House, and the prestigious Covent Garden Festival
  • 1992 First performances with Symphony Orchestra in Prince George and Edmonton
  • 1992-93 Through the course of the quintet’s history, we have averaged about 100
    educational shows a year, but this season would see a record 176 educational concerts!
  • 1994 Our next CD “A Whole New World,” is released
  • 1995 Quintet is featured as guest artists with the Okanagan Symphony
  • 1997 The quintet performs several concerts with guest artist Sam Pilafian and “Traveling Light”. This season would also see another performance with the Edmonton Symphony as well the release of our third CD, “Saturday Night Waltz”.
  • 1999 Release of “It’s Christmas” CD number 4!
  • 2001-02 This year marked an expansion of touring the Midwest United States, with two tours totalling 37 concerts in 14 states
  • 2003 The quintet’s new show “Bourbon Street to Broadway” debuts in Florida to rave reviews Our concert with choir is recorded for CBC national broadcast Christmas Day
  • 2004 The quintet is once again featured in concert with Edmonton Symphony
  • 2005 This season marked our first tours to California and Kentucky as well as extensive touring of the Pacific Northwest and featured concerts with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Lethbridge Symphony
  • 2006 The quintet embarks on its first tour of Wyoming Our fifth CD “Bourbon Street to Broadway” is released.
  • 2007 The quintet tours in Georgia for the first time, and premieres “BrassScapes”
  • 2008 Our latest CD (and touring program) “Stampede” is released
  • 2010 This year saw our first tours to Texas, New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut,
    Pennsylvania, Missouri and Tennessee!
