An artist of international repute, Caitlin Hickey has performed around the globe with some of the world’s most sought after musicians; whether leading a jazz section, working with a chamber ensemble or performing with a symphony orchestra, Catie is the epitome of versatility. Ms. Hickey was most recently named to the renowned Foothills Brass Quintet based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Catie, as an orchestral musician has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic, Castleton Festival Orchestra under Maestro Lorin Maazel, Youth Orchestra of the Americas with Placido Domingo, and in the original pit for the Ken Ludwig musical Gershwin’s “American in Paris”. Prior to joining the Foothills Brass Quintet Catie was Associate Principal Trombone of the Orquesta Sinfonica Sinaloa de las Artes in Sinaloa, Mexico.
When not performing around the world Ms. Hickey is a sought after pedagog with an increasingly impressive resume. Catie is on the faculty of the annual Alfredo San Malo Music orchestra festival in Panama, City, Panama; she is also returning for her fifth year as a chamber music coach for the Eastman Summer Trombone Institute. During the summer of 2009 Catie traveled to Yaounde, Cameroon, Africa as a member of the Cultures in Harmony organization chamber music outreach group, while in Africa the group conducted workshops, and held concert performances in schools, orphanages and gala settings throughout the city. Starting this upcoming season, Catie will be working with the Calgary based educational group ‘The Clinic Line’ where musicians are hired to work in schools with young band students from across the Greater Calgary Area.
Ms. Hickey is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Rice University with degrees in both classical performance and jazz studies, as well as obtaining a certificate in Arts Leadership. When not hard at work performing or teaching with her overgrown paperclip, Catie is working on improving her Spanish, planning, and even on occasion carrying out back packing trips through the Adirondacks, and faithfully rooting for her Chicago Cubs.
